LETTER: Technology should make some chores interesting
UNFORTUNATELY for me and people of Sunrise Beach, our local Foodworks store closed yesterday. There now has to be a new way of starting my morning. My one and only intention of going there around 5.30am was for the Sunshine Coast Daily, bread and milk etc and a bit of gossip. The only missed days were Good Friday and Christmas Day. So today I had to arrange home delivery so as not to miss out on the local and world news and of course also, because of not knowing the future of the ..>> view originalOh bummer, convicted nudist loses appeal
NUDISTS have been dealt a bitter blow with an appeal judge upholding a wilful exposure conviction at the Sunshine Coast's unofficial "clothing optional beach" Alexandria Bay. The decision by Judge DCJ Jones in the Maroochydore District Court means police have fresh case law to back them when charging people nude sunbathing at the popular Noosa spot. A petition calling on Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to make A-Bay Queensland's first official nude beach has also reached a dead end. ..>> view originalTOTALLY HOOKED: Time crucial in chasing barra
AS OF February 1, the season opened to legally target barramundi again. And although their numbers are not great, it is no secret that barramundi sporadically inhabit the Sunshine Coast river and canal systems. To better your chances of tangling with that rewarding slab of silver, you need to focus on a few basic principles: find the right structure as this will often hold bait which is a necessity, water temperature and moon phase. Bring those elements together and your chances of c..>> view originalThe House the Coast Built ready to help great cause
ASTUTE property buyers don't have to look any further for a home that ticks all the right boxes than the House the Coast Built in Flame Tree Pocket. With four bedrooms, a handy location, top fittings and features, and L-shaped saltwater "Magna" pool, it is a future homeowners' dream. But this house has extra elements no other home on the market can boast of. It was built with love. THE race is on for Palmwoods Devils rugby league players and officials to field a side for the senior competition for 2016. After two years on the sidelines, a group of players spent the off-season training in preparedness to make a Division 2 comeback. But their tilt at putting 13 men on the park each and every week could be in jeopardy, unless they find a coach willing to steer the side. Leading the Devils' return to the field is 23-year-old Jeremy Brauer. Brauer is a former pla..>> view originalHistoric first: Scientists finally detect gravity waves
Gravitational ripples in the fabric of spacetime, first predicted by Albert Einstein 100 years ago, have now been detected by scientists who believe the discovery opens new vistas into the "dark" side of the Universe. Physicists around the world confirmed that they had detected unambiguous signals of gravitational waves emanating from the collision of two massive black holes 1.5 billion light years away in deep space. As the two black holes spiralled into one another in a violent collis..>> view originalWeekend rain throws a spanner ahead of finals
CRICKET: Rain that has already affected the second last round of SCCA fixtures still has the ability to further decide the semi-final rankings that are so vital to the contenders' hopes. Two of the matches failed to start last Saturday, meaning that the 1 v 4 clash of Maroochydore Blue and Glasshouse will now be played as a one day game. Points on offer are reduced from 10 to 7 for the win, with no bonus points, although the incentive points for runs and wickets will apply, but obviousl..>> view originalTough pocket-rocket shows world class
SURROUNDED by inspiration, Karen Tavener had seen plenty of triathlon racing but never thought she too would one day reach the Ironman red carpet. Long course triathlon had always been the "thing" of brother-in-law Robbie Andrews. But after only three years in the sport, the little pocket-rocket is poised for the greatest year an amateur triathlete can imagine. Tavener has qualified for both Ironman World Championship events this year, and is poised to wear the green and gold against..>> view originalWATERCOOLER: Morcombes push for sex offenders register
THE parents of slain Sunshine Coast schoolboy Daniel Morcombe have been inundated with support after asking whether people would support Daniel's Law, which would create a website listing names and locations of violent sex offenders. Bruce and Denise Morcombe posted on the Daniel Morcombe Foundation's Facebook page on Thursday asking whether people would back the introduction of the law honouring their son.
